Building Information Modelling School

Current and upcoming openBIM standards

Instructor: Thomas Liebich, AEC3, DE

Schedule: Tuesday 8th December 10:50-12:00

Summary

An important part of BIM is the unconstrained delivery of information among the participants - this requires the use of open standards for access by a large variety of tools and services. The IFC Standard, ISO 16739, is currently the most used openBIM standard. This lecture will demonstrate the basics of IFC, how it is defined and how it is configured to support different exchange scenarios as MVD, and what are the current plans for future development. Both in terms of coverage leading to support of infrastructure works and in terms of technology enhancements towards new definition languages as UML, exchange structures as Json, OWL and goals of the future IFC5 platform.
